A.J. Green: The Right Choice

Green has great ability and was simply too talented to pass on.
Even if it meant adding draft picks.

When the Bengals were on the clock yesterday with the fourth pick in the draft, rumor has it that the Atlanta Falcons offered them a pretty tempting trade package. The trade would give Atlanta the #4 overall pick and move the Bengals to #27 overall. The Bengals would have also received the Falcons' second and fourth round picks this year, as well as next year's first and fourth round pick. That is a great offer and one the Bengals considered. But, Cincinnati fans tend to criticize everything the Bengals do and usually it is rightfully so. However, there is no way fans should be upset, hurt or worried about this decision and here's why.
A.J. Green is the best offensive player in the draft and a guy that will be successful in this league. If you’re the Bengals why not get the best player available? You would probably respond with “Because we're sooo bad and they need help everywhere!” All right we need help everywhere, but we still have seven picks in this years draft. We can fill some holes and one of those holes is now filled with the best offensive talent in the draft. Quantity over quality? I don't like that argument because I want great players. Great players help form great teams. The Bengals are not a great team and they are not a team like the Colts or the Patriots who can develop average players into great ones. Relax Cincinnati; Mike Brown made the RIGHT decision (I know it doesn't happen often). In Green's draft profile guess how many areas of concern there were? None! I'm sorry that we didn't trade down so we could stockpile guys who have mediocre talent or players that fell in the draft because of character issues. I like a guy with no question marks and A.J. Green fits the bill perfectly. He is going to be an NFL success and depending on the quarterback has a shot to be rookie of the year. I am going to go on the record and say I am starting to hope Carson comes back. He can help the QB we draft and make things easier for him. What rookie QB wouldn't want to have a hard working freak of nature at Wide Receiver. Playmakers are rare and the Bengals got one. The Bengals got the BEST player available and addressed a major need. Don’t fret Bengals fans, Rejoice!

NFL Mock Draft Top 5 plus 1

1. The Carolina Panthers will select Cam Newton (QB) out of the University of Auburn. His potential is too high to pass on, even though there are plenty of questions.

2. The Denver Broncos will select Marcell Dareus (DT) out of the University of Alabama. This guy should help the Broncos transition to the 4-3 defense.

3. The Buffalo Bills will select Blaine Gabbert (QB) out of the University of Missouri. If they believe he can be the future of their franchise, then why not pick him third? Von Miller is also a possibility.

4. The Cincinnati Bengals will select A.J. Green (WR) out of the University of Georgia. Assuming they do not trade this pick the Bengals need to pick the best player available. A.J. Green arguably has the most talent in the draft. Patrick Peterson could also be a nice fit at safety.

5. The Arizona Cardinals will select Von Miller (OLB) out of Texas A&M. This guy is loaded with talent and will start from day 1.

6. The Cleveland Browns will select Patrick Peterson (CB) out of Louisiana State University. This guy is number one on a lot of big boards and simply has too much talent to pass up. Julio Jones is definitely in play here since the Browns definitely need a wide receiver.

Here's my projected top six picks in the draft. In the end it is a toss up and the biggest question of the draft is how important is it to get one of the top two quarterbacks? Because there are plenty of players that should be taken before Gabbert and Newton in my opinion. If I'm the Panthers I want A.J. Green to pair with Jimmy Claussen. If you draft Newton your giving up on Claussen and I think it is too early to do so. Regardless, make sure you tune in and watch the  NFL Draft at 8pm Thursday night!

Will Cam Newton be the first player taken in
the 2011 NFL Draft? No one knows.

Sports Minute

Reds get a much needed win.

The draft is a week away and like most Bengals fans I think I want this guy. Gamebreakers are rare and A.J. Green is a gamebreaker.

The Miami Heat look to make it 3-0 against the Philadelphia 76ers and essentially put the series to bed.

Don't worry the Lakers are still the Lakers folks.

Is it me or do the Oklahoma City Thunder look very good?

The Knicks? They're done. They just don't have enough to compete with the big four down the stretch. Lose to Boston in six, maybe five if their not careful.

The NBA Playoffs are going to be so entertaining and already have been. Were only two games in people.

Better late than never. Finals Prediction.

Miami is going to beat Chicago in Seven games to get the their first NBA Finals since 2006. The Lakers will meet them in the final after Kobe hits the game winning jumper over Kevin Durant and the Thunder. However, Miami will rise above the Lakers and win the NBA Championship in 6 games.

The Big Three celebrated last summer when they joined forces and by the time the
Playoffs are over the Heat will be celebrating once again.
